Higher Park Farm is a long standing Riding school and livery yard that is now under new management. I have been riding there for a few weeks now and i have to say that I rate it more than some of the local competitiors. The quality of the ponies and instructors are second to none. They are educated in all aspects of teaching and horse care. I would highly recommend

I have not ridden at Higher Park Farm for just over 2 years now, but I feel some people shouldn't be so narrow minded. Although many BHS yards are good yards. Out of the 3 yards I have ridden at. Higher Park Farm was the best. Previously I was at Laris Farm where I always felt unwanted. In lessons we always did the same things, I began to believe that I was a terrible rider, even after 3 years there, and that I never did anything well. My father became tired of how Laris Farm made me feel because he thought it was unfair on me. So I moved to Higher Park Farm. It was under different management to now as this was about 6 years ago, but I have never felt more welcome. Even when I went to have a look round in my Laris Farm uniform. I spent 4 happy years there before the management at the time bought her own yard and set up in Lyne, where many of the staff moved to. The horses DID have a day off, contradicting some reviews I have read, and regularly went down to the 'Holiday Field'. This was a large field off site where horses would go for at least a week off. The horses always came back even more eager to work. Although the yard was very busy, all staff members ensured that the horses' welfare came first. All the horses were fit, healthy and happy, although every yard has that one grumpy pony! :-) I am no longer the timid child I was when I first moved there! My riding has improved to no end. I also now am capable of handling and even riding my boss' highly strung event horses, something I would never have dreamed I could be capable of whilst at Laris Farm. I think this goes to show that a yard is not all about being approved, or surely I wouldn't have left the BHS approved yard, for one that was not.

Higher Park Farm Riding School is fully licenced and insured and approved by the Pony Club. To be licenced the school has to be inspected by the council and a vet. All horses are checked regularly to ensure they are well cared for and fit for working. The Pony Club has very high standards of care and instruction.

This riding stable is not approved by the British Horse Society (BHS). Whatever your reason for seeking out a riding centre – be it to learn to ride, for a pleasant hour’s hacking, or training up to advanced level – you will want to pick an establishment that is both reputable and well run. British Horse Society Approved Establishments have horse and pony welfare along with client safety and satisfaction as priorities. All establishments are insured for public liability and comply with the latest health and safety legislation. To uphold the scheme’s standards and ensure quality teaching, unannounced annual inspections are organised for your peace of mind.
